Starting from Rifugio Brunone, the trail gradually ascends towards the imposing walls of Pizzo Redorta, crossing the Vedretta dei Secreti. After the descent from the 'Simàl', a challenging section leads through Val di Foga and the Forcellino notch. The stage concludes with the descent towards the basin of Lago di Coca and the hut of the same name. The route is suitable only for experienced hikers in excellent physical condition.
Route Description:
From the Tranquility of the Brunone to the Challenge of the Redorta:
You start from Rifugio Brunone (2295 m) heading east, on an initially flat trail. You leave trail 330 (low variant) on your right and trail 252 (towards Pizzo Redorta) on your left. The ascent towards the imposing walls of Pizzo Redorta begins, a slope that, from this perspective, seems almost inaccessible.
A steep switchback trail climbs the scree, leading to a rocky ledge that you traverse to the right. You pass over a notch (bocchetta), entering the high cirque of the Vedretta dei Secreti, a glacial environment of rare beauty.
The Ascent to the "Simàl" and the Infernal Descent:
You cross the Vedretta cirque to reach Sella dei Secreti and descend on the opposite side. After a flat section (trail 334 descends on the right), you face the final, most demanding ascent towards "Ol Simàl" (2712 m), the highest point of the Sentiero delle Orobie.
The descent from the Simàl is a steep and loose gully, requiring extreme caution and sure footing. You cross the head of Val di Foga, continuing east to the Forcellino notch.
From the Rocks to Lago di Coca:
The descent continues along a rocky gully and a scree and grassy slope, both challenging and requiring attention. A series of ups and downs, with equipped sections, leads to a panoramic point overlooking the basin of Lago di Coca.
You descend to the lake (2108 m) and quickly reach Rifugio Coca (1892 m), traversing the valley.
