From Rifugio Calvi to Rifugio Baroni al Brunone, a wild and fascinating route awaits you, where nature shows itself in all its power. Fear not, the efforts will be amply rewarded by breathtaking views and the satisfaction of having overcome one of the most challenging stages of the entire trail. But remember, this is not a walk in the park! Only experienced hikers, with good training and a healthy dose of caution, will be able to conquer this stage. So, lace up your boots, fill your water bottles, and get ready to live an unforgettable adventure!

Don't forget to bring your " Orobie Passport" with you to collect stamps from the huts along the route and keep a special memory of your adventure!

The route from Rifugio Calvi to Rifugio Baroni al Brunone

This stage is classified as one of the most demanding and wild on the Sentiero delle Orobie, reserved for experienced and trained hikers. The route winds through high mountain landscapes, with exposed sections, rocky passages, and possible snow patches even in summer. It is essential to pay the utmost attention, especially in case of rain, when the rocks become particularly slippery.

Main Stages

Route Description: 

  • From Rifugio Calvi to Passo di Valsecca:
    • You start from Rifugio Calvi (2050 m) and descend towards Lago Rotondo, a small body of water that reflects the surrounding peaks. 
    • After crossing the lake's outlet, you take a trail that winds through the wooded slope of the Brembo River valley. 
    • You continue on a slight descent to the Baite del Poris (1956 m), a small group of huts offering a picturesque view of the valley. 
    • From here, the trail begins to ascend the valley, crossing the river at approximately 2030 m altitude. 
    • You continue to a plateau located between the imposing peaks of Pizzo del Diavolo and Pizzo Poris, where you intersect with trail 248. 
    • You then head towards the valley leading to Passo di Valsecca (2496 m), tackling a series of switchbacks that require good physical fitness.
  • From Passo di Valsecca to Rifugio Brunone:

    • From Passo di Valsecca, the descent begins on the opposite side, through a rough terrain of small rocks and grass.
    • You follow the ridge that descends from Pizzo Tendina, shortly reaching the Bivacco Frattini (2255 m), an essential stopping point on this stage.
    • From the bivouac, you continue the descent through pastures, tackling some switchbacks, until reaching the Valle del Salto (approximately 1900 m). Genera overview audio 
    • This valley may present snow patches even late in the season, requiring particular caution.
    • Once past the valley, a long ascent begins along the slope that descends from Pizzo Gro and Cima Soliva.
    • The ascent begins with a steeper incline, then becoming gentler, until reaching the junction with trail 227, which ascends from Fiumenero.
    • A little further on, you finally reach the Rifugio Baroni al Brunone (2295 m), the final destination of the stage.

Important Warnings:

  • The trail route in some places is particularly damaged and slippery.
